Behringer Ultramizer

This is a compression and mastering
device. The compression and limiting is dual channel, that is it is split
over high and low frequencies to prevent one of the two frequency groups causing
compression on both (usually the bass causes the upper frequencies to be
compressed). It also has a surround
processor and 2-band enhancer to give you the ability to tweak you high an low
frequencies. There is a noise reduction/gate system.
I had considered a number of software
mastering tools but they where many times the cost of this hardware. And
hard ware is more reliable than software in my experience. It took me a while to
get the hang of this thing here are some tips
that may help.
Pro
-
Can be edited from midi.
-
Dual Band.
-
The two stereo channels can be split into 2 independent
channels.
-
There is an extensive led display to give you
the levels so that you can push you signals to the limit and see when they
are about to distort over hi and low frequency bands.
-
There are presets to get you started for the common
applications you may have for it, eg drums, vocals pop disco etc.
-
It can be updated with new bios to add
features.
-
It has 50 saveable patches on board.
-
It has and extensive midi implementation.
Con
-
If you try and remove the rack brackets on the
side the inner working are exposed.
-
There is no attack on the compressor (can be useful
for guitar).
-
It has no hard and soft knee settings.
-
I cant tell from the documentation if it is
hard or soft knee.
